A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A LA CANADA PLAYHOUSE TRADITION

Every year, the La Canada Playhouse at LCHS celebrates the holiday season with a festive production of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Theatre teacher Justin Eick directs the show, while 9-12 students comprise the cast and crew. While some students are performing onstage, others are handling major responsibilities off-stage, such as operating the equipment for lights and sound, helping with costumes, and moving the elaborate set pieces for each act.

This year’s production featured many talented performers, who brought the characters to life and swept the audience away to Victorian London. Justin Eick commented, “I’m especially proud of how faithful our production is to the period.”  Through this annual tradition, students are exposed not only to the creative benefits of theatre but also to the teamwork and dedication required to mount such a large-scale, famous production in addition to the rich, timeless literature of Charles Dickens.

Upcoming productions at the La Canada Playhouse include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dracula, and The Sound of Music. Admission is free for the 2015/16 season.
